FORDHAM COLLEGE AT ROSE HILL At Fordham College at Rose Hill, we prepare students to break barriers, exceed themselves and serve the cause of the human family throughout their lives of personal and professional achievement. We invite you to join our $25 million capital campaign, formally launched on May 12. Your gift will help our students become world-class scientists, researchers, scholars and leaders who are guided by the Jesuit ideals that have been taught at Rose Hill since 1841. Science Education To accommodate surging interest in the sciences and help our students prepare for distinguished careers in a variety of scientific fields, the college seeks funding for: Science facilities and equipment We will enhance our laboratories for biology, chemistry, physics and engineering, and make improvements to the Louis Calder Center Biological Field Station in Armonk, N.Y. We will invest in advanced technology and scientific instruments, and bring new resources to the study of computer science and astronomy, one of the most popular science subjects among non-science majors. Pre-Health Education To build on our strong record of preparing students for medical school and other health-related professional programs, we will create professorships, undergraduate research fellowships, an endowment for the Undergraduate Science Research Symposium and an annual fund that supports pre-health education in a variety of ways. Endowed Professorships and Research Funds for New Science Faculty Endowed professorships will attract exceptional science professors who secure large research grants and raise the profile of the college. Research funds for new faculty will also help the college attract academic stars. International Education International education transforms students on many levels. It prepares them for successful careers in a global economy, teaches them to navigate new cultures, and gives them new perspectives on themselves and their career ambitions. It also presents unique opportunities for scholarship and research. We seek support for: • Study abroad fellowships to make international study accessible to all students who demonstrate the intellectual and personal potential. • An endowment for the International Political Economy program to expand this rapidly growing interdisciplinary major, which prepares students for a variety of international careers. • Courses to meet students' growing interest in non-Western languages, such as Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Japanese. Dean's Academic Fund for Humanities and Service This fund helps the dean of the college facilitate intellectual inquiry, creative growth and service to humanity among the students at Rose Hill. Gifts to this fund will support: Undergraduate research To support the dean's goal of developing a culture of research on campus, this fund will enable undergraduates to deliver papers at professional conferences, conduct field research and pursue other endeavors that help them gain admission to the best graduate schools. Arts The dean will promote the performing and visual arts by supporting concerts, performances, exhibitions and music instruction, as well as facilities projects. Core curriculum The fund will enhance instruction and foster the creation of new courses by expanding the work of the Center for Teaching Excellence. Pre-Law advising The fund's uses will include a pre-law symposium and advisory program, which will increase our students' already high rate of acceptance to law school and prepare them for successful careers. Human service Support Human service activities, such as Global Outreach programs in developing countries and mentoring programs that match Fordham students with disadvantaged youth, is vital to the University's mission. Faculty The dean will develop lecture series for visiting faculty and world leaders, and will develop symposiums that bring the best scholars to campus. 2. The Fordham Undergraduate Research Journal (FURJ) is a student-run journal that features high quality, peer-reviewed, original research conducted by undergraduate students in the sciences, humanities, and social sciences. FURJ also includes scholarly book reviews, review essays, and feature articles. All research articles undergo a rigorous double-blind peer and faculty review process. FURJ is published annually – in print and online – in the spring semester. FURJ welcomes submissions from current Fordham students and recent graduates as well as students from other universities who conducted research at Fordham.
