Congratulations to the 2011 McMahon Travel Fellowship Recipient

Congratulations to 2011 George J. McMahon, S.J. Travel Fellowship recipient Helena Guzik. Helena is an FCRH junior in the Honors Program, double-majoring in History and Art History. She is an intern at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and has also worked at the Guggenheim Museum and in public diplomacy for the U.S. Department of State. She is the design editor for the new Fordham Undergraduate Research Journal and an editor for the Amerpsand Literary Magazine. During the summer of 2011, she will use her McMahon Scholarship to travel to Italy to conduct research on the way that Renaissance painters depicted the human form. In particular, she is interested in the contrasting visions of artists that understood humanity through new scientific, naturalistic ideas and those that continued to hold to older visions of the body in terms of the expression of the soul. The fellowship will allow her to work with museum collections in Florence, Padua, and Bologna.
